A treatise on Yogas formed due to planets, asterisms, their relative placement, conjunctions and aspects and their indications and guidance. There are many Yogas described in the scripts of Vedic Astrology, such as Raja Yog, Mahapurush Yog, Yog for affluence and many other Yogas. The Yogas are not limited to success and/or wealth but are also indicative of unique characteristics, good, special and/or unique qualities of character and happiness. Most important of these Yogas are described here with their influence as per the placement of Yog in the horoscope and their probable indications which could manifest in our lives. The twenty seven Birth or Nithya Yogas are also described. All the Yogas should always be studied in a holistic manner along with other details in the horoscope and not in isolation.

Thanks for understanding.

It is presumed that one has the basic knowledge of Jyotish concepts. Some basic concepts are given which are mostly accepted principles for determining the timing of marriage

1. Check which planet is ruling the 7th house.

2. Check where the 7th lord is placed, is it in Trine houses(1,5,9) or in the Quadrant (1,4,7,10) or Negative houses(6,8,12).

3. Placement of 7th lord in either a Trine or a Quadrant is supportive to get married and generally this position gives a good life partner along with awesome married life and placement of 7th lord in negative houses gives delay in marriage.

4. If the 7th lord is present in Pushkar Navamsha or Pushkar Bhaga, despite being in negatives houses, it blesses the individual with a beautiful married life.

5. Check if any other planets are affecting the 7th lord by way of either conjunction, exchange or aspect.

6. Check the Navamsa or the Divisional Chart 9(D9) for the planet ruling the 7th house and which planet is posited in the 7th house.

7. Check the Dasha pattern, one could get married when there is association between the Dasha ruler and the 7th Lord of D1 or planet associated with the 7th house of D9.

8. According another method of finding the marriage timing, add the longitude of the Lagna(ascendant) lord and the 7th lord and if the total exceeds 360º, deduct 360 from the longitude, the resulting value is called Vivaha Saham. Marriage can solemnize whenever Jupiter or Venus transits the Vivaha Saham longitude.

9. Vivha Saham should always be taken and analysed along with other factors such as Dasha position etc.

10. Marriage can take place when either Saturn or Jupiter in transit, aspects either Lagna or Lagna lord or 7th House or 7th Lord.

11. Using Ashtakavarga method also marriage time can be ascertained. Add the Ashtakavarga scores of 1st house to 7th house from the Samudaya Ashtakavarga table. Divide the resultant by 27. The resultant will be a number, if it is not a whole number, round it off to the nearest whole digit. Say the resultant is 7.9, round it off to 8 and find the eighth star starting from Ashwini, which is Pushyami. Now, whenever Jupiter transits Pushyami we can say that the chances of females getting married would be there and whenever Venus transits Pushyami, the chances of males getting marries would be there.

Health is the primary requirement for peaceful and prosperous existence of humans. We can do anything, do any work or take up any task if we are healthy and in a physically fit condition. If our health goes down we get cornered to just one place till we get back to normal health. Here are some references and indicators of ill-health and their combinations as per Vedic Astrology. Kindly do not apply these combinations verbatim to any charts, they are just for guidance for the holistic study of the main chart along with the divisional charts..

Reference Body Part:

  • Understand that organs and body parts are referenced by a House (bhava), Sign/Rashi and a Planet.
  • The Planet representing an organ in their natural tendencies are the Karakas. The Planets that represent an organ through House ownership are the Lords.
  • Bad aspect/association of both these type of Planets show up as a disease.
  • Ex. Sun is the natural Karaka for heart. In a horoscope, 4th House represents heart. Hence to judge for heart disease, we should look at influence on both Sun as well as lord of 4th House and 4th House of D4(Divisional chart-4). If one of these factors is strong, the effect of the disease are not likely to show up. If both are weak, then the problems will be worse.

Agents causing disease:

  • In a horoscope, association of the Lord of 6th House with any of the Planets will show up as a disease. If both the Karaka and Lord are associated with 6th lord, then problems will be magnified.
  • Position of Planets in 6th House in the horoscope causes problems.
  • The Planet Mars signifies wounds and injuries due to accidents, etc.
  • Rahu is responsible for suddenness.
  • Saturn represents chronic diseases.

Please note that association and aspect by an agent is essential. Weakness of the Karaka/Lord is important. General Weakness, but not amounting to disease should be looked at carefully. If a Planet is debilitated or is associated with other inimical Houses, e.g. 6th, 8th or 12th, it will not cause disease by itself. However, it will signify general weakness and lack of development for that body part.

Karakas for diseases (There are variations in these with different system, readers are advised to please check other systems also)

Sun – Stomach, Right Eye, Heart, Head and Joints.

Moon – Karaka of Mind & Heart. Lungs, Left eye, Breast, Brain, Blood, Body Fluids, Intestinal, and Lymph glands.

Mars — Blood, Bone-marrow, Neck, Veins, Neck, Red blood cells, and Body Energy

Mercury — Chest, Nervous system, Memory, Skin, Navel, Nose, Gall bladder, Lungs, Tongue, Arms, Face and Hair.

Jupiter – , Sharpness or Dullness of Mind, Thighs, Fat, Brain, Liver, Kidneys, Lungs, Ears, Tongue, Memory, Spleen

Venus — Face, Urine, Semen, Body Physique, Shine and Luster, Genitals, Reproductive System, Throat and Brain.

Saturn — Legs, Joints, Bones, Muscles, Organs, Teeth, Skin, Hair, Genitals, Ears, Knee

Rahu — Legs, Breathing, Neck, Lungs, Tongue and Mind.

Ketu – Abdomen, Hands & Palms, Nails, Ears and Spine

Weak Planets do not affect the health if they are not connected to the right House. We need to check the running Dasha and if required we should go up to Deha dasha to ascertain the event.

Another important factor which gets overlooked generally, is the effect of Stars/Asterisms under which the Planets are present in a Horoscope.

Some indications of onset of diseases, can be given as below, which again can only be ascertained through a holistic approach to the chart and these combinations cannot and should not be applied as-it-is to all charts.

1. The Dasha of Rahu posited in 8th House from Moon.

2. The Dasha of the Planet owning 12th House from Saturn.

3. The Dasha of the Sun, if it owns the 7th House from Moon.

4. The Dasha of Mars, if it is the owner of 6th House from Moon

5. The Dasha of the Lord of the Sig occupied by Mandi, when Mandi is posited in the 4th or the 10th Bhava.

6. The Dasha of the Venus when it owns the 12th House.

7. The Dasha of Saturn, if it is occurring as the 4th Dasha in order.

8. Dashas of malefic Planets if it owns the ascendant or the 4th House.

These are just some of the pointers compiled from few sources(one being Medical Astrology by Maj Khot), there are many more such scripts, interested people can find them online.

It is quite common to see two or more planets very close together in a Sign or House in a chart. It is called an astrological conjunction. A conjunction brings significant interaction of the involved planets’ energies effect. The effects can be either benefic or malefic, depending on the nature of the planets, signs and aspects involved.

This conjunction is universal to the whole planet. All nations, cultures, and individuals will feel the effects of this conjunction. The magnitude, intensity, and variance of these effects will differ relative to a nation or individual’s chart.

Mars and Saturn are said to be in conjunction when they are in the same house, especially when they’re close to one another. They influence each other. For example, in case of Mars-Saturn conjunction, Mars is a planet of Energy, Aggressiveness, Anger, Conflicts, Dispute, and Agitation. Whereas, Saturn is the planet of Justice, Suffering, Trouble, Delays, Obstacles and Obstructions. Such influences of the planets are tempered by the sign in which they are positioned either in a positive or negative way. For example, Mars in Aries has a different nature than Mars in Taurus. Similarly, Saturn is also influenced by the sign in which it is positioned.

When such a combination exists in a chart, it is generally considered to be destructive or negative. But there are always elements of positive influence that manifest. While we are generally aware of the destructive nature of this planetary configuration, there are some benefits as well of such a conjunction which it can bring, some of those are as given below:

  1. This combination enhances the ability to think, and brings logic, diplomacy and strategy which will help anybody to survive.
  2. The combination increases the person’s ability to take challenges and does not allow them to feel defeated. Therefore, it makes the person rise to the occasion and fight it out and not get a sense of defeat, even when defeated. The Spirit becomes optimistic.
  3. While it gives tremendous experience in dealing with life, by making the person go through all kinds of difficult experiences, these very experiences enable the person to rise above the circumstances and become successful.
  4. Things which are difficult to change can be changed. It is because of this planetary combination that people or countries can make radical changes which would otherwise take ages. These changes ultimately bring progress.
  5. These planets remove laziness and promote action and keep us busy.
  6. This planetary connection promotes hard work, which is always good.
  7. Mars, when aspecting Saturn, gives power to Saturn. The power of Mars is energy and action. It makes people awaken to the challenges of life and become action oriented.
  8. People who have a restricted boundary of thinking and who are afraid to go beyond these limitations created by themselves, when under pressure of the Mars Saturn conjunction, are forced to break the barriers and go beyond.

Apart from the Mars-Saturn conjunction, similar types of results can also be expected, when Saturn and Mars are in mutual reception or in opposition. Meaning they are aspecting each other either in a supporting or opposing way. The results of the Saturn Mars conjunction or aspects are different for different rising signs therefore one has to make adjustment in understanding their influences. When the Saturn Mars conjunction or aspects exist in an individual’s natal chart, the impending transit carries the dominant influence for those individuals; no matter what house or sign they are in transit. If the conjunction is not present in the natal chart, when they are just transiting in the space, they may not make much impact especially when the Dasha and/or Bhuktis or Antardashas are favorable in the individual chart. But in case of countries or nations, the results may be viewed differently.

In general people need to be careful about their health, should not to be in a hurry, avoid accidents, cautious about risky investments, and travel only when it is necessary. Most of all, watch our immune system.

Ultimately, all these planetary conjunctions are a challenge to our strength and therefore that is the beginning of gaining a control on our lives to rise above and face better times ahead in once lives. Unless we are challenged by the circumstances of life and thereby gain experience, we cannot learn to live with confidence and ease.

The following summary is taken out of the publications from the great Dr BV Raman’s compilations.

Transiting planets come into conjunction, opposition, shashtashtaka (6th / 8th) position, or trine position with any natal planetary placements, the transiting planets create an energy which indicates some good results and some bad results.  There are, however, some basic guidelines to remember when arriving at transit results.

1.    Transiting planets, which may be favorable according to general rules, may not give favorable results.  This is due to unfavorable placements in relationship to the birth planets regardless of favorable transit position from the birth moon.

2.    When Jupiter transits through the exact degrees of a natal planet, it enhances matters in the house owned by that planet.  For example, Jupiter, when it passes over the planetary lord of the 5th house, promotes children.

3.    Depending on the nature of the planets involved, strong or weak, positive or negative results can be expected when a transiting planet enters into opposition with a natal planet.

4.    Positive aspect between the natal and transiting Jupiter indicates positive results.

5.    When a transiting planet exerts its influences on a particular sign, the owner of that house also receives the influence of the transiting planet even though it may be in some other house.

6.    Whenever adverse results take place, Mars will be transiting the Lagna, the Moon, the Sun, or the houses related to the areas of affliction or it will be in opposition to these houses.

7.    When Saturn conjoins or is in opposition to the Sun or the Moon it brings adverse results.  Generally, the Moon indicates emotional issues and the Sun indicates government related or official matters.

8.    When Rahu & Ketu pass over Saturn, sudden and unexpected developments take place.

9.    The Sun’s transit of the Sun sign or opposition to it will bring difficult results.

10.  If the Moon transits in favorable aspects to benevolent planets, results will be good.

11.  When Dasa / Bhuktis are operating, if such planets in transit are in exaltation, own house, etc., it will give good results, and negative results when such planets go to debilitated signs.

12.  A benefic planet becomes more beneficial when it retrogrades.  Whereas a malefic planet becomes more malefic when it retrogrades.

13.  A benefic planet transiting a benefic house will not give good results if conjunct or powerfully aspected by negative planets.  Similarly, negative planets will not be as negative when conjunct or aspected by a benevolent planet.

14.  All planets become capable of giving good results when they transit the 11th house provided they are not afflicted by malefic association, combustion, or opposition, etc.
